Music Elective Programme
Aims and Objectives
The MOE Music Elective Programme (MEP) enables musically inclined students the opportunity to deepen their knowledge in music and hone their abilities in listening, creating, performing and research. The enriching curriculum provides hands-on music-making and access to specialised facilities and learning opportunities with professionals in the creative industries.
Students will:

Be exposed to a range of music across genres and cultures, including Classical, Popular, Jazz and Asian music

Develop skills in listening, creating, performing and music research
-
Access specialised facilities (e.g. practice studios) and music resources (e.g. audio-visual materials; scores; books; music technology)
-
Learn from professionals in the music and creative industries
-
Enjoy opportunities to learn and collaborate with MEP students from other schools
Entry Requirements
A pass in the Selection exercise by the school, consisting of:

A Listening Test on Western and Non-Western musical traditions,
-
A Performing audition of 2 contrasting solo pieces on an instrument or voice, with a maximum duration of 5 minutes. Non-pianists can perform unaccompanied.

Interview - sharing of musical aspirations and interests

Selection Test for 2025 Sec/Year 1 MEP
Date/Day: January 2025 (to be announced)
DSA-MEP students will not be required to attend the Selection Test.

Areas of Study
Drawn from a broad selection of significant genres and traditions, candidates will understand and appreciate the historical, social and cultural aspects of music from the following 4 areas of study:

Western Classical Tradition - Solo Instrumental Music, Chamber Music and Symphony

Co-curriculum
All MEP students in MGS are required to join a Performing Arts music CCA, as it enhances your journey of musical development.
Students can choose from a selection of Performing Arts music CCAs:

Fee Subsidy
Students of all nationalities who are admitted into the MEP within an Independent School are eligible for a fee subsidy up to a cap of $2400 per student per year.
However, MEP students who also qualify for other Singapore-MOE awards, such as the Edusave Scholarship for Independent Schools (ESIS) are entitled to only one award (i.e. either the MEP fee subsidy or ESIS).
